Hope all is well with everyone. Some tough weather across the country, so our good thoughts for all, who have been effected. We’ve been blessed with some good rain, and now beautiful fall weather, here in Santa Fe. Very fortunate
The Michael Hearne Big Barn Dance Music Festival, was the best ever, hands down. We had a great set with just about the entire Hearne family and a couple of special guests, on stage with us for NM Rain. The weather was outstanding, and the backstage food was great. Was so good to have my two very special friends, Becky Crutchfield and Mary Alden Allard, hangin’ out with me. A little strange without Bonnie, they got me through, along with my family. Mary is a long time Barn Dancer, but first time for Becky. Came all the way from Boston, in 3.5 das, ground and air, to be there with me. I doubt if she’ll ever miss another one. God willin’, we’ll all be back for #17 on Sep 5/6/7. The highlight of the festival was hearing Chris Hillman and Herb Pedersen. Both played on mine and Bonnie’s, Watching Life through a windshield CD. So happy to see them, after all these years. Got to sit in with my dear friend Tish Hinojosa, as well.
After Barndance, I headed off to Southern Alberta Canada, to visit my friends Paula and Peter Swan. They have a beautiful ranch south of Calgary, and hosted a house concert for me in nearby Longview, home of my hero Ian Tyson. Their friends, Happy and Bob, at the Lost American Gallery, in Longview, provided the venue for me. They’re great folks, and have a beautiful gallery. Toured part of the new Canadian National Music Museum. Great stuff. Calgary and surrounding area is a hotbed for music. Hope to go back next year and do more.
Next big thing, for me, is coming up on Oct 19/20. I’ll be doing a co-bill with my dear friend, Butch Hancock, in Terlingua, TX, at the famous Starlight Lounge. There is also a music festival during the day, so the town will be full of music fans. Should be one heck of a good time. I’ll will be solo, but Butch and I, will be doing some tunes together, for sure. It’s a perfect time of year to be in the Big Bend area of TX. Then, two weeks later, I’ll be headin’ to the Austin area, for 8 shows in the vicinity. Check out www.billhearne.com <www.billhearne.com> for specifics. I’ll be doing most of the shows with either, my friend David Carroll, upright bass , or my long time friend Jon Mastin, on acoustic bass guitar. I’ll rap up the tour, at Gruene hall, and my friend Jon Inmon, monster guitarist, will be joining me to make a trio for that show.
Got to go for now, so I’ll say, adios. Hope to see many of you very soon. Take care, and stay well. As always, thanks so much for your continued support and love.
